AREWA YOUTHS IN TALKS WITH ASARI DOKUBO AND OTHERS

Alhaji Shettima Yerima,  an activist and president of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, in this interview says that peace may continue to be elusive if some ethnic groups are treated as second class citizens in the Nigeria project, adding that justice and fairness can only ensure the much desired peace in the country.
Excerpts.
The inflammatory statements here and there especially coming from politicians and ex-militants on the general elections are source of worry. You agree?

I am worried because this is not what we expected from this country at this time. I am very worried also because we don’t need these inflammatory statements coming here and there at this particular time. It baffles me when I see our democracy turning into something else. People don’t talk as patriotic Nigerians. Politicians don’t talk about what will benefit the people any more and those who are beneffiting from the government shy away from the truth. Most of them believe that they can do anything and go away with it.

Many Politicians seem to have forgotten that election will come and go but the country will remain.

We are doing it. As I speak with you, we are in touch with various ethnic national leaders. I have spoken, with Fredrick Fasheun, Gani Adams, Asari Dokubo and the rest of them. We are discussing extensively and we might hold a press briefing very soon on the need for violence-free elections before and after election in all parts of the country.

To me, both the ex-militants and TY Danjuma are wrong. The call for war is wrong and also depriving somebody of his freedom of speech is also wrong. If Jonathan loses through normal process, they have no reason to raise any eyebrow; again, there are other channels without war. You can go to court and challenge the verdict. Nigeria must be seen to be bigger than any individual.

Again, the call by Danjuma that they should be arrested is uncalled for because similar statements have been made by other people in the past. What happened? Was there any arrest? No. So, anybody talking now is enjoying his liberty under a democratic government.

But from the discussion I had with so many of them, nobody wants war.

We should ask Minister for Defence, the National Security Adviser, NSA, the Inspector General of Police, Attorney-General of the federation, all of them are from the north. Instead of pointing accusing fingers, these people should tell us about it and we will know where the problem is coming from rather than blaming Jonathan alone.

Breaking News: The Great Oba Of Benin Is Dead

SOURCE

His Royal Majesty Omo n’Oba n’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Erediauwa, the monarch of Benin Kingdom has joined his ancestors. He was 92 years old.According to authoritative sources within and outside Edo State, the well-regarded king transited to the great beyond about two weeks ago.

His death is still being kept secret because by Benin tradition, the death of an Oba could only be officially announced 30 days after his transition. The Oba was said to have died in his palace. Immediately he was confirmed dead by his personal physician, a delegation of senior Benin chiefs went to the house of the heir apparent the throne, Prince Eheneden Erediauwa to inform him of the development.

Investigations by ionigeria news revealed that the Oba died about two days before the campaign rally of the Presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Major General Mohammadu Buhari in Benin City. Buhari had his rally in Benin City on Thursday, January 29, 2015. That is why the Monarch could not receive Major General Buhari.

Similarly, when President Goodluck Jonathan visited Benin City for his campaign rally, he was only received at the palace by a team of Benin chiefs led by the Iyase, Chief Sam Igbe. Oba Erediauwa was born in 1923, son of Oba Akenzua II.

Before being crowned he was known as Prince Solomon, Aiseokhuoba, Igbinoghodua Akenzua. He attended Edo College, Benin City, Government College, Ibadan then Yaba College, before going to King’s College, Cambridge to study Law and Administration. He joined the Eastern Nigeria Civil Service in 1957 as a District Officer, later moving to the Federal Civil Service where he retired as Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health in 1973.

For a short period he was the regional representative of Gulf Oil. In 1975 he was appointed Commissioner for Finance in Bendel State during the Military Administration of Major-General George Agbazika Innih.Ascending to the throne as the 38th Oba of Benin on 23 March 1979.

During this period, he several times acted as a peacemaker between politicians. For example, he intervened in a dispute between Abia State governor Orji Uzor Kalu and Tony Anenih, Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party Board of Trustees, and resolved another face-off involving Anenih and former Edo State Governor Lucky Igbinedion.

More recently, he tried to broker peace between the feuding members of Edo State House of Assembly. It would be recalled that his wife, Queen Esther died about a year ago. we made some calls to one or two family members, but they neither refuted nor confirm the story to be true or false.

We therefore believe this has a lot to do with the tradition of keeping quiet for 30 days. so we advise you handle this as speculation until the palace releases its official statement, so we do not offend the traditions of the great Bini kingdom.May his soul rest in perfect peace.

Sambisa Forest News:Military destroy 6 buffur camps of Boko Haram terrorists

Aftermath of the directive that the military embark on the final onslaught to flush out Boko Haram terrorists from the North East and try to rescue the over 200 Chibok Girls, Special Forces of the Nigerian military backed by attack aircraft of the Nigerian Air force, Thursday night commenced
their movement into the Sambisa Forests.

As a result of the military’s movement into the terrorists laden forest, Vanguard gathered that recently acquired latest T 55 armoured personnel carriers, with capability for mine and explosives sweeping devices and heavy artillery Howitzer guns, led the way from the ground while the air force carried out air bombardments from the air.

Consequently, military sources in the epicentre of the operation told Vanguard that six buffer camps of the terrorists manned by heavily armed terrorists, which were positioned to stop the Nigerian military for gaining entrance into the forest were taken out and scores of Boko Haram fighters killed.

ALARM-OBASANJO WARNS OF COUP IN 2015

SOURCE

FORMER president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has raised the alarm over postponement of the elections.

This was as he publicly endorsed former military head of state and candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, to unseat President Goodluck Jonathan, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday.

Obasanjo was in Nairobi, Kenya, to launch a 1,500-page autobiography highly critical of Jonathan. The book has been banned in Nigeria, pending libel hearings brought by an ally of the president.

“The signs are not auspicious in the wake of the six-week postponement of the general election,” Obasanjo said, adding, “I don’t know whether a script is being played.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission, last weekend, postponed the earlier scheduled February 14 election till March 28, after security chiefs said they could not safeguard the polls while launching a regional military campaign to reclaim territory from Islamist extremists.

Obasanjo,in an interview, said: “I sincerely hope that the president is not going for a broke. “I hope that we will not have a coup... I hope we can avoid it.”

This is the first time Obasanjo has come out openly to support Buhari.

“The circumstances Buhari will be working under if he wins the election are different from the one he worked under before, where he was both the executive and the legislature — he knows that,” said Obasanjo, adding that “he’s smart enough. He’s educated enough. He’s experienced enough. Why shouldn’t I support him?”

He also believed Buhari would be well equipped to combat corruption and restore fighting spirit to an army that had struggled in the face of the onslaught by Boko Haram.

“It’s a question of leadership - political and military,” Obasanjo said of the crisis facing the army.

“I think you need to ask Mr Jonathan how has he let the army go to this extent... Many things went wrong: recruitment went wrong; training went wrong; morale went down; motivation not there; corruption was deeply ingrained; welfare was bad,” he added.

The former leader also expressed dismay at the extent to which billions of dollars in oil revenues had “all disappeared” since he left office, when reserves had reached $45 billion and the government had $20 billion more in rainy day savings.

How Goodluck Campaign’s security chief, others in Edo state-dump PDP for APC

President Goodluck Jonathan’s Campaign Security Chief in Edo State, Mr. Fred Ikhuebor, has led over 3,000 people to the All Progressives Congress, APC in Edo State.

Other former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stalwarts who decamped with their teeming supporters to the APC, at a rally in Benin City, include Chief Sunny Erhengbo, Dr. Friday Omokaro, former PDP House of Representatives aspirant for Ikpoba Okha/Egor federal constituency, Dr. John Ogbomo and Mr. Lucky Akalede, among others.

Mr Ikhuebor, who until his defection was head of security of the Goodluck to Goodluck Campaign Organisation in Edo State, said that “APC is the only party in Nigeria practicing what is obtained in advanced countries.

He said: “Peoples Democratic Party is a party of liars. There is no truth in them. We will join forces with you, sir, to deliver Edo State for APC in the presidential election and all the other elections.”
Others who spoke at the ceremony include the former PDP House of Representative aspirant for Egor/Ikpoba Okha federal constituency, Dr. Friday Omokaro, Chief Sunny Erhengbo, Dr. John Ogbomo and Mr. Lucky Akalede among others.

In his remarks, Governor Adams Oshiomhole expressed gratitude to all those who have come to join the moving train.

Jonathan re-election will be a disaster -Gen.MOMAH

EXCERPTS  FROM SOURCE

General Sam Momah (retd) , a former member of the Armed Forces Provisional Ruling Council and Minister of Science and Technology, Gen. Sam Momah, hold s PhD in Strategic studies and is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineer. He once served as a Principal Staff Officer to General Muhammadu Buhari, (retd) the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress. Momah, in this interview dismisses the furore over Buhari’s certificate as a dent on Nigeria and not the former head of state. -

You were the Principal Staff Officer to Buhari when he was the GOC of the 4th Division of the Nigerian Army. What do you make of the controversy over his missing certificate?

I find it ridiculous and unbelievable how our political class could be so petty and mundane at this particular crucial time. It is unnecessary to go that low because we must win at all cost.
The certificate saga is something that they should realise that they are denigrating the image of Nigeria and not just General Buhari.
http://www.vanguardngr.com/

How do you rate the two major contenders in the forthcoming presidential elections?

Jonathan has tried his best. I doff my hat for him for holding the Constitutional Conference; he has given the women 35% Affirmative Action on gender equality and has tried to tinker with agriculture, the cassava bread issue, which has now virtually died and now he is trying to bring up a rice issue.
But the point is that when you have a president who says that stealing is not corruption and treats corruption with kids gloves, then most of that money released, just disappears. There is no system that will progress if there is no accountability. Jonathan has tried, but he has left the core issues which are security and corruption hanging loose.
If you cannot secure the lives of Nigerians, then I do not see why you are there as the Commander-in-Chief of the country. You are keeping some of us sleepless.

Playing of naked politics

The campaigns have been very poor in quality. It has been very disgraceful because they have not been issue-based. It has been praise-singing and mud-slinging.
Obama became re-elected based on two issues. They asked him, ‘if you are elected, what will you do about Osama Bin Laden,’ and he replied, ‘I will kill him.’ Journalists were shocked that Obama could be that brutal and blunt.
When he became president, he quietly planned and killed Osama Bin Laden. Based on that, he was re-elected. Americans like someone keeping his words.

Are you not worried that militants have threatened war if the election does not favour their own candidate?

Well I am not surprised that this is coming up because, for long or too long we have treated militants and all sorts of law-breakers in this country with kid’s gloves. We have even talked of negotiating with Boko Haram, people who do not just shoot but also slit throats. They have been killing people like goats. It is hard to believe that the government spends N24 b annually on the militants for them to guard our pipelines. Yet they do not guard the pipelines. They break it and scoop oil making us to lose about $1m every day. So if an individual now goes to buy warship, you can imagine what is on the ground. A war ship is never switched off; it is always on 24 hours of the day. It is expensive to maintain it. And that is what an individual has. We have given them too much latitude and too much money. It has come to a point where we must assert our sovereignty as a people because the country belongs to every one of us.
They buy war ships, build universities abroad and live in luxury while the majority wallows in abject poverty. This impunity must stop else Nigeria will go down the drain.
It’s unfortunate that many Nigerians do not know that Nigeria is sinking. It must be prevented. When people make such statements, you can imagine the state of madness that we are in.

INEC JEGA'S SAKE CERTAIN -MORE FACT EMERGE

just like the usual saying that there is no smoke without fire, more facts has been uncovered on how Prof Atehiru Jega the INEC chairman, may end up not conducting this this year 2015 election.
our source has more story here

With the successful postponement of the elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the Presidency has launched a
two-pronged war to ensure that President GoodluckJonathan wins the election convincingly.

The two strategies are to stop Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress candidate from contesting the election with Jonathan and the replacement of the INEC Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega, with a lessindependent-minded person. Jega, it was gathered, had been described by hawks around the president of being too independent-minded and ‘uncooperative’ despite being given the job on a platter of gold by the president’s men.

Vanguard learnt that Jega might have unwittingly played into the hands of the forces arrayed against him by agreeing to shift the elections.Legal war to disqualify Buhari

Competent sources said last night that the move to remove Jega and the legal fireworks against Buhari, would be taken up simultaneously with effect from this week given the timeframe made possible by the shift. The retired general is to be prosecuted by a team of legal luminaries for ‘lying on oath’ that he had a school certificate with the Nigerian Army when he knew that it was untrue. The plaintiffs are said to have settled for trying Buhari for alleged ‘perjury’ instead of outright non-possession of certificate following legal advice that the latter would be more difficult to prove within the time at their disposal.

Vanguard learnt that although Jega reluctantly succumbed to pressure from the Presidency and its security chiefs to shift the polls, he might still not be allowed by the forces to conduct the rescheduled
elections between March 28 and April 11.

Vanguard gathered from competent sources that the Presidency was no longer comfortable with Jega and was, therefore, working tirelessly to get him out of the commission to pave the way for a more ‘trusted hand’ to conduct the rescheduled elections.

It was learnt that the forces arrayed against the INEC boss had convinced the President not to renew Jega’s tenure, which is expected to lapse on June 13 this year.
The forces, it was learnt, felt that Jega was rather too ‘difficult’ to deal with, having not allowed himself to be dictated to by anyone since assuming office like other
appointees of the government. It was learnt that in a bid to sweep off Jega from his
seat without raising any dust, he would be asked to comply with the civil service procedure by proceeding on his three months terminal leave with effect from March 1, this year since he is expected to retire on June 13.

S-West gov’s brother may replace Jega Vanguard gathered that in his place, the Presidency
was considering bringing in another academic from the South-West, who is currently heading a tertiary institution in the country. The professor of Political Science and International Relations is said to be a sibling of a serving governor in the South-West, who is a close ally of President Goodluck Jonathan and his party.

Competent sources also told Vanguard last night that
although the name of the academic had been made known in security circles, it was not clear whether the man had been cleared by the forces with a view to sending his name to the National Assembly for possible confirmation, as required by law.

Working against Jonathan’s interest As a prelude to removing Jega from office, some close
allies of the President had started accusing him of taking side with the opposition to undermine the
success of Jonathan and his party in the next election.Earlier last week, Jonathan’s godfather, Chief Edwin Clark and other prominent politicians from the Southern part of the country had accused Jega of working against the interest of the president and the PDP and asked him to resign from the commission.

Although no evidence was adduced by Clark and his group to support their allegation, they nonetheless called for the arrest of Jega. Similarly, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, on Saturday, said Jega had lied about the state of the commission’s preparedness for the conduct of the election.

In the same vein, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Olisa Metuh, accused INEC of
working with the opposition to deny its members of permanent voter cards in some states. He called on the security agents to probe the commission over the development.

BREAKING: Obasanjo endorses Buhari Finally

SOURCE

Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria’s former president, has publicly expressed support for the electioneering campaign of Muhammadu Buhari, a former military ruler and presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Until now, he had not specifically endorsed Buhari despite openly criticizing President Goodluck Jonathan in the last two years.

Speaking at the launch of My Watch in Nairobi, Kenya on Tuesday, Obasanjo, who served his two terms as president on the same Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform that Jonathan is now running on, also condemned the postponement of the election.

“The circumstances [Buhari] will be working under if he wins the election are different from the one he worked under before, where he was both the executive and the legislature – he knows that,” he said. “It’s a question of leadership – political and military. “He’s smart enough.
He’s educated enough. He’s experienced enough. Why shouldn’t I support him?” It is the first time that the ex-president has publicly spoken of his support for Buhari.

He recently said that he would only speak out on his leaning after the election has been conducted. On the postponement of the election he said: “The signs are not auspicious. I don’t know whether a script is being played.

” He criticised the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, accusing him of wasting the country’s resources. “You need to ask [Jonathan] how has he let [the army] go to this extent,” he said “Many things went wrong: recruitment went wrong; training went wrong; morale went down; motivation not there; corruption was deeply ingrained; welfare was bad.”

When asked if he was still nursing further political ambition, he said: “I am an old man and I’m enjoying what I’m doing now… And then you forget I am a farmer; I have to manage my farm.”

Disqualifications Suits against APC Presidential Candidate Gen Buhari

source

The All Progressives Congress and its presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, have opposed the orders of a Federal High Court in Abuja, directing that they be served through substituted means‎ in the suit challenging Mr. Buhari’s eligibility to stand for the March 28 presidential poll.

The Judge of a Federal High Court Abuja, Adeniyi Ademola, had in two separate suits challenging Mr. Buhari’s eligibility to contest the election, last week granted ex parte orders permitting the plaintiffs, Chukwunweike Okafor and Max Ozoaka, to serve Mr. Buhari and the APC through newspaper publications.

The court had also granted an order of abridgment of time within which the defendants must respond to the suits.

The lawyers of the two plaintiffs were in court to represent their clients in the separate suits in on Monday.
The electoral empire, Independent National Electoral Commission, was also joined in the suit as defendants.

Counsels to Mr. Buhari and the APC informed the court Monday that they would file applications challenging the competence of the suits and the entire steps taken so far, including the orders of service through substituted means.

Their lawyers, Wole Olanipekun and Lateef Fagbemi, urged the court to adjourn the matter to enable them to file all the necessary documents.

Mr. Fagbemi also urged the court to ‎set aside the order of abridgment of time within which the defendants must file their responses, arguing that the granting of the order hinged on urgency had already been diminished with the postponement of the poll from February 14 to March 28.
The judge adjourned the suits to February 23.

Apart from the two suits under consideration, at least three other suits ‎seeking an order directing INEC to disqualify Mr. Buhari from participating in the poll are also in separate courts.
In the substantive suit, Mr. Ozoaka through his counsel Ade Okeaya-Inneh is seeking among other relief:
-“A declaration that by the combined provisions of Sections 31(1) (2) and (3) of the 2010 Electoral Act as amended and INEC Form CF 001, the 1st defendant is mandatorily obliged by the law to comply strictly with the provisions laid down under the Electoral Act as amended and INEC Form CF 001 as it relates to attaching evidence of the 1st defendants birth certificate and evidence of his educational qualifications as required under INEC Form CF 001;

-A declaration that by the combined reading of Sections 31(1)(2) (3) and 31 (8) of the Electoral Act, the 1st and 2nd defendants are mandatorily obliged by law to comply strictly with the provisions laid down under the Electoral Act vis-a-vis the filing and submission of INEC Form CF 001, by the 1st defendant attaching evidence of educational qualifications as required under the said INEC Form CF 001 and that noncompliance with this condition inherent amounts to an offence under Section 31(8) of the Electoral Act;

-A declaration that the curriculum vitae and voters registration card attached by the 1st defendant in his INEC Form CF 001 and submitted to the 2nd defendant as a presidential candidate in 2015 general election is not in conformity with the form prescribed by the Electoral Act/INEC Form CF 001 and is manifestly in contravention of the said Act/INEC Form CF 001 and therefore null and void;

-An order declaring as invalid the INEC Form CF 001 as filled by the 1st defendant as being inchoate and manifestly in contravention of the provisions of the Electoral Act/INEC Form 001 as the 1st defendant did not comply with a condition inherent/precedent in the INEC Form CF 001 submitted to the 2nd defendant, by failing and/or refusing to attach evidence of his birth certificate and educational qualifications which are conditions inherent/precedent as prescribed in the form;

-A declaration that the 1st defendant is not eligible to participate in the 2015 Presidential election for failure to comply with the terms for submission of list of candidate and affidavit of personal particulars of persons seeking election to the office of the president;

-A declaration that the sworn affidavit by the 1st defendant stating that his original certificates are presently with the Secretary Military Board cannot replace and/or satisfy the provision under INEC Form CF 001 requiring him to attach evidence of his educational qualification as such requirement is a condition inherent and a condition precedent to his eligibility to contest/participate in the 2015 presidential election;

-An order disqualifying the 1st defendant from contesting and/or participating in the presidential election fixed for the 14th February, 2015 or any other date that the 2nd defendant may fix; and

-An order restraining the 2nd defendant from permitting the 1st defendant from participating in the presidential election fixed for 14th February, 2015 or any other date that the 2nd defendant may fix.
Mr. Ozoaka also raised eight questions for the court’s determination. Among the questions are:

-Having regards to the clear, unequivocal and sacrosanct provisions of Section 31(1), (2), (3) and (5) of the Electoral Act, Cap 15 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2010 and INEC Form CF 001 which stipulates the conditions to be complied with in the submission of list of candidates and their affidavits to INEC, whether the 1st defendant herein has complied with the said law and INEC Form CF 001, when he failed to attach evidence of his educational qualifications to the INEC Form CF 001 submitted to the 2nd defendant for the purpose of the 2015 presidential election.

-Whether the curriculum vitae of the 1st defendant as attached by the 1st defendant alongside the affidavit sworn by the 1st defendant and attached in the INEC Form CF 001 to the 2nd defendant suffices and/or replaces evidence of the 1st defendant’s educational qualifications as required by INEC Form CF 001 and is in accordance with the prescribed form as stipulated by Sections 31 (1) of the Electoral Act, Cap 15 LFN, 2010.

An Open letter to APC Presidential Candidate buhari

source here

The Imo state born actor,Prince Eke wrote an open letter to the APC presidential candidate General Muhammadu buhari, Read below;

My letter to BUHARI,

Sir,let us examine your service records. I consider your generation a very privileged one, indeed. In 1975 at d age of 33, you were appointed d Military Governor of d North-Eastern State, present day Borno & Yobe states. In 1976 at d age of 34 you became d Minister 4 Petroleum and Natural Resources.

In 1978 at d age of 36 you became d Chairman of d Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Today the reverse is the case. Most Nigerians at age of 35 are still unemployed and still living with their parents. Many are still not married. During your time you were already Governor at this age.

One major reason for this unfortunate turn of events is that many elders like you have refused to voluntarily handover the baton to the next generation.
Life should be a relay race where one runs his race and hands over 2 d next. In Nigeria many elders like you have run their races and are still holding on tenaciously 2 d baton. But Sir, I have an important question here 4 you.

The question is simple, MUST YOU SERVE NIGERIA AS A PRESIDENT ONLY? IS THERE NO OTHER CAPACITY YOU CAN SERVE US EXCEPT D PRESIDENCY? It is very erroneous 2 imagine that you can only serve Nigeria only in one capacity. During d regime of late General Sani Abacha, you accepted d appointment 2 serve as d Chairman of d then Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF). D general opinion was that you served faithfully in this capacity.

Well done Sir! But you never asked Abacha 2 vacate office 4 you as your former subordinate in d army. Never! In fact that would have been a dangerous move, if not suicidal. Rather you served faithfully under your former junior in d army. Sir, imagine if you take on another job like d Chairman of EFCC or ICPC or NDLEA. Nigerians actually need you 2 serve in one of these capacities much more than they need you in d Presidency.

Mere mentioning your name as Chairman of EFCC would drive many corrupt men underground. But you wouldn’t . Either d Presidency or nothing. When are you going 2 handover 2 d next person? It is either you do it voluntarily or risk disgrace at d polls. God bless you sir..”

IVORY COAST win the 2015 African Nation Cup,9-8 on Penalty

The victory gave the Ivorians their second title, in a repeat of the 1992 final.
On that occasion, Ivory Coast won 11-10 on penalties after a goalless draw.

They will be delighted to have emulated the feat having gone close twice since - in 2006 and 2012 - the latter of which they lost to Zambia, who were then coached by Herve Renard.

Goalkeeper Boubacar Barry saved and scored the crucial spot-kicks that handed Ivory Coast a dramatic 9-8 penalty shootout win over Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations final.

Barry, who appeared to cramp up during the shootout, denied fellow keeper Brimah Razak - one of five efforts missed - before slotting in the winner.

The Frenchman's success as coach of the Elephants makes him the first man to win the title with two countries.

Defeat was perhaps a little harsh on Ghana who had the better of the chances in the match and twice hit the woodwork.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Has Finally Endorsed Jonathan For 2015 Election-How they come up with there consensus

The Pan-Igbo socio-political body, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Tuesday endorsed the candidacy of President Goodluck Jonathan for re-election in the February 14 presidential elections.

The decision came after it meeting held at the national secretariat in Enugu.

The body noted that the Igbos contributed massively to Jonathan’s victory in 2011, Ohanaeze Ndigbo said it had to choose between backing the President to complete his second term in office, or withdrawing its support for him.

In arriving at the decision to back Jonathan, Ohanaeze said it took note of the fact that, although the President had not done as much as Igbos expected from him, he has improved infrastructure in the South-East, and given Igbos a general sense of belonging in his administration.

A statement, titled ‘Presidential Election, 2015: The Stand of Ndigbo,’ which was jointly signed by the President-General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Gary Enwo-Igariwey, the Chairman, South-East Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, and the Secretary-General, Dr. Joe Nwaorgu, said the endorsement followed wide consultations.

The body also stressed that the decision to endorse Jonathan was made in the “collective interests” of all Igbos, as well as in solidarity with the people of the South-South.

Amaechi called on the pastors to return the alleged bribe collected from the PDP.

“They gave them N6 billion. They should return it to the Federal Government coffers. They will tell you that Buhari wants to Islamize Nigeria; tell them we are too educated. I am a Catholic, but no Catholic priest has told me that story right now in the Catholic Church because, I will ask him how.

“If any pastor tells you that, tell him to return the money. Nobody can Islamize Nigeria. They have commercialised Jesus Christ. They should stop commercialising Jesus Christ. He is our Lord and Saviour.

“You know what Jesus Christ did in the temple, he chased them away. We shall chase away those pastors who have collected money from PDP to tell us lies. We shall chase them away on behalf of our Lord Jesus
