“Agents have been asking him to tell them about his relationship with Boko Haram, Islamic Movement of Nigeria and the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra,” Premium Times quoted a source as saying. “He has continued to deny any relationship with all these groups.”
Recall that Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of a Federal High Court in Abuja, had on Thursday, December 5, 2019, directed the secret police to release Sowore within 24 hours.
Ojukwu also fined the DSS the sum of N100,000 for not serving the defence
counsel with the additional proof of evidence in the ongoing trial of Sowore and Olawale Bakare, on time.
Bakare was also arrested over the planned protests.
Following the 24-hour release order, the DSS set Sowore free.

Prior to his release, Sowore was in the custody of the secret police since his arrest on August 3.
He was arrested for calling for nationwide protests, tagged RevolutionNow, against the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.

The DSS accused the activist of plotting with foreign interests to overthrow the Buhari led government that was re-elected in February of 2019. Sowore was a presidential candidate in the election.
Despite court orders to release Sowore, the DSS has failed to obey, throwing up numerous excuses.

How Nigerian lawmakers squandered billions of naira meant for constituency projects

How Nigerian lawmakers squandered billions of naira meant for constituency projects

  • Nigerian lawmakers used sharp practices such as duplication of contracts, in connivance with executing agencies, to pocket billions of naira meant for constituency projects, a new report by ICPC revealed.
  • The report uncovered billions of naira included in the 2019 budget but not allocated to any specific project or sector.
  • It tracked 424 projects between 2015 to 2018 in the zonal intervention projects covering 12 states and the federal capital territory.
A new report has uncovered how Nigerian lawmakers used sharp practices such as duplication of contracts, in connivance with executing agencies, to pocket billions of naira meant for constituency projects.
The report, conducted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), uncovered billions of naira included in the 2019 budget but not allocated to any specific project or sector.
The report conducted by Constituency Projects Tracking Group (CPTG) also detailed some recommendations of the ICPC in the fight against corruption.
The first phase tracked 424 projects within three years (2015–2018) in the zonal intervention projects between June and August 2019, covering 12 states and the federal capital territory.
The states are Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Benue, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Kano, Kogi, Lagos, Osun, and Sokoto.
Constituency project is a response to the yearning of constituents on development initiatives and the presence of government in different communities. According to a study, since inception in Nigeria, there have been misconceptions, misinterpretations, and judgment of the administration of the funds by lawmakers.

Here are highlights of the report:

  • The report revealed wide disproportionality between appropriations for constituency projects and core-mandate projects of some implementing agencies evident in Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDAN) and Border Community Development Agency (BCDA).
  • The size, number and types of Zonal Intervention Projects (ZIP) domiciled in SMEDAN and BCDA, for instance, have turned them into conduits for, and means of abuse of constituency projects and therefore vulnerable to corruption.
  • Lawmakers turned constituency projects are also turned to capacity building and empowerment projects which entails training, supplies, and distribution of varieties of such implements and tools as motorcycles, tricycles, sewing machines, grinding machines, etc to constituents, to empower them to own and operate their businesses. At times, it also includes cash grants. The report revealed that these have become a convenient conduit for embezzling public funds by sponsoring legislators and the executing agency as they are difficult to track and verify due to their “soft” nature.
On recommendation, the ICPC report called for a review of the statutory mandate of SMEDAN and BCDA on project types. It recommended that a robust sensitisation on concept, funding, and implementation of projects to local communities.
It also advised the government not to accept new projects in certain constituencies if there are existing uncompleted or underfunded projects.

Nigerian-Owned Church In U.K Accused Of Selling Blood To Raise Funds

Nigerian-Owned Church In U.K Accused Of Selling Blood To Raise Funds

Some of the pastors in a Nigerian-owned church in the U.K, SPAC Nation, have been accused of forcing young members to sell their blood and donate the money to the church as a form of fund-raising.

The church is run by 39-year-old Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, a Nigerian who took up residence in Britain in 2005.
In a report by HuffPost, the practice is known as “bleeding for seed” in the church and has been described as “vampire-like” exploitation by outraged critics of SPAC Nation.

Some members donate blood and are paid up to £100 by medical trial companies. This money is then handed over to the church’s pastors as a method of fund-raising to support the church.
There is always a set target which could be as much as £1million for church members, the pastor then put pressure on church members to meet this target via his sermons.

The people donating could be underaged and they often donate due to pressure to meet targets. In a similar investigation by HuffPost, “SPAC Nation is being alleged of forcing young people to take out loans to donate to the church.”
One of the blood donors said the blood was collected by Trial 4 US, one of the UK’s leading clinical research organisations for clinical trial volunteer recruitment based in London Bridge.

The blood is used to develop and modify laboratory methods in the development of new medicines.
Trial 4 US pays donors up to £100 (₦40,371.08) for donating 600 mls of blood or a proportional amount if less blood has been donated, i.e. £50 for 300 mls.
However, the company has no idea that some of the people donating blood from the church are being pressurised into doing that while some are underaged.

The United Kingdom Steve Reed, Labour’s shadow minister for child protection who had some of the youngsters confide in him said,
“a pastor pretended to be the young person’s parent, went with them to donate blood for which they would get paid, signed a consent form as the parent to allow the blood to be given and then when the money was handed over they took it for SPAC Nation. It was about £30 a go.”
This is not the first time criminal activities will be probed in the church. On February 1, 2018, The BBC report had described SPAC Nation as “The church where drugs and knives are left at the altar;” and Sunday Times of August 11, 2018, sees it as a church that uses “‘Demonic’ drill rap used to spread the gospel.”

‘I Don’t Understand Why Oprah Is Going After Black Men’ – 50cent

‘I Don’t Understand Why Oprah Is Going After Black Men’ – 50cent

American rapper, 50cent, has backed entertainment mogul Russel Simmons after he was featured in a #MeToo documentary produced by Oprah Winfrey.
Simmons was accused of assault in 2017 but had denied the allegations.

Oprah’s documentary, which is produced in collaboration with Apple TV+, focuses on the #MeToo movement and sexual misconduct within the music industry.
“I don’t understand why Oprah is going after black men,” 50cent posted on his Instagram page. “No Harvey Weinstein, No Epstein, just Micheal Jackson and Russell Simmons this shit is sad. Gale hit R Kelly with the death blow documentary. Every time I hear Micheal Jackson I don’t know whether to dance or think about the little boys butts. These documentary’s are publicly convicting their targets, it makes them guilty till proven innocent.”

Meanwhile, Simmons himself has also responded to the documentary.
He said although he used to be “a playboy”, he has “never been violent or forced myself on anyone”.
“I have already admitted to being a playboy more (appropriately titled today “womanizer”) sleeping with and putting myself in more compromising situations than almost any man I know,” Simmons wrote on Instagram.

“Not 8 or 14 thousand like Warren Beatty or Wilt Chamberlain, but still an embarrassing number. So many that some could reinterpret or reimagine a different recollection of the same experiences. Please note that ur producers said that this upcoming doc was to focus ONLY on 3 hand-chosen women. I have refused to get in the mud with any accusers, but let’s acknowledge what I have shared.

“I have taken and passed nine 3-hour lie detector tests (taken for my daughters), that these stories have been passed on by CNN, NBC, BUZZFEED, NY POST, NY MAG, AND OTHERS. Now that you have reviewed the facts and you SHOULD have learned what I know; that these stories are UNUSABLE and that “hurt people hurt people”. Today I received a call from an old girlfriend from the early 1980s which means that they are using my words/evidence against me and their COMMITMENT/ (all of the claims are 25 to 40 years old) It is impossible to prove what happened 40 years ago, but in my case proof exists of what didn’t happen, mostly signed letters from their own parents, siblings, roommates, band members, interns, and in the case of 2 of your 3 accusers, their own words in their books. Shocking how many people have misused this important powerful revolution for relevance and money.

“Maybe you should name your documentary “FLAVOR OF LOVE”!? In closing, I am guilty of exploiting, supporting, and making the soundtrack for a grossly unequal society, but I have never been violent or forced myself on anyone.”

In an interview with Emelia Brobbey on her Okukuseku show, Salma emphatically stated that she will never forgive Moesha or talk with her again over an undisclosed incident.
Salma said: ”I have forgiven all those who have offended me this year because there is reason harboring that anger…As for Moesha, she is someone I don’t ever think I will talk to again. I don’t know what the future holds, but she isn’t someone I want to have a personal contact with.”

Moesha also accused her colleague of dating married men and still dating some of them, while covering that up with her businesses.
She also accused Salma Mumin of being bitter because her butt surgery wasn’t as successful as hers.

Moesha wrote; "Salma Mumin who served a response to Moesha via an Insta-Live video, stated that she has been quiet for so long which is why so many people misunderstand the situation and see her in a way she doesn’t like. She also alleged that Moesha was fake which was why she cut her off.
"Also reacting to the controversy about her age, Salma stated that she is not the first person to lie about her age and if she says she is 30 people should leave it at that and not add more it."

Miss Matilda Mark Itonyo.
The Rivers State Police Command has arrested one suspect in connection with the gruesome murder of a 500-level Law student of the Rivers State University, Miss Matilda Mark Itonyo.

According to Punch, the suspect, whose name was withheld by the police, was only identified as a former boyfriend of the murdered student.

It was gathered that the police had in the early hours of Saturday tracked the suspect to his house in Port Harcourt before taking him away to the State Criminal Investigation Department.

The 24-year-old Matilda was stabbed several times in the neck and head by her assailant(s) at her private apartment outside the university campus.
The killers were said to have broken into her room in the early hours of Tuesday and allegedly raped her before snuffing life out of her.

The incident, according to sources, forced some of her course mates to shun classes when they got wind of the incident.
Confirming the arrest of the suspect, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Nnamdi Omoni, explained that he was apprehended for interrogation in connection with Matilda’s murder.
He stated, “We cannot say that we have arrested the killer of the student. He was only arrested for interrogation and at the end, if he is found culpable, he will be prosecuted. But if he is innocent, he will be allowed to go.

“Yes, the suspect is the former boyfriend of the late student. He was arrested on Saturday morning after being tracked to his residence.”
The father of the deceased, Mr Ebikene Itonyo, told Punch that he rushed to the state CID when he learnt that a suspect had been arrested.

Ebikene called on the police not to relent in their efforts to fish out the killers of his daughter and bring them to justice.
“I was at the state CID. I rushed to the place when I was told that one of the suspects had been arrested. We know that the suspect will deny, but I think the police must have seen some certain things that made them to arrest him,” Ebikene added.

Two Nigerian nationals including a priest arrested in India for ATM cloning, 37 cloned cards recovered

Two Nigerian nationals including a priest arrested in India for ATM cloning, 37 cloned cards recovered

A Nigerian man who earlier served as a priest at a church in Greater Noida has been arrested, along with his “assistant”, also from Nigeria, for cloning dozens of plastic cards by fixing skimming devices and secret cameras in ATMs in Delhi.

The two were arrested after a brief chase near D1 Market in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj on Friday. They had with them 37 cards that had already been cloned, 10 blank cards, and a host of devices used in the fraud, said Devender Arya, deputy commissioner of police (south-west).

The police, however, are yet to determine the scale of their alleged fraud.
Arya identified the arrested men as Oluwatoyin Isaiah, 46, and his assistant Nosa Tony — a 43-year-old man who would allegedly be given 2% of all proceeds from the crime.

“Isaiah was living on an expired visa after arriving in Delhi in 2012 on a medical visa. We recovered two passports from him. They have different names and numbers, but both have Isaiah’s photo,” Arya said.

The officer said that having overstayed his visit, Isaiah had tried his hand in the hair export business, apart from his two-year-long stint at the Greater Noida church, before coming into contact with a Bulgarian man, Eris, at Delhi airport last year.
“Eris taught Isaiah how to clone cards. They purchased a skimming device from an e-commerce site and procured the other devices a variety of sources,” Arya said.

Eris and Isaiah would allegedly fix the skimming devices and spy cameras in unguarded ATMs in Delhi-NCR. They would copy the data from a card onto the skimming device, and Isaiah would allegedly transplant this data on to a blank card. The spy cameras helped Isaiah know the PINs of these cards, the police said.

Isaiah sought Tony’s help for the second step, which the police said wasn’t as risky as the first. The latter has been living in Gurugram since last year on a business visa.
Once they had everything, all they needed to do was either withdraw cash discreetly from ATMs or spend the money in the cards for online purchases.

The two were arrested after the south-west district police was tipped off about their whereabouts. Eris remains on the run, said the police.

“They were headed to an ATM to commit a crime. Most of the items we recovered from them was found in a bag they were carrying,” the DCP said

Lecturer, 10 others kidnapped by Boko Haram beg for freedom

Lecturer, 10 others kidnapped by Boko Haram beg for freedom

As ACF asks FG to review its strategy in negotiations

By Ben Agande, with agency report

No fewer than 11 persons, including a lecturer in College of Education, Gashua in Yobe State, who were recently kidnapped by Boko Haram in the state have appeared in a video shared by their abductors, asking the  Federal Government to come to their rescue.
This came as Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, weekend, called on the Federal Government to review its negotiation strategy with the terrorists and ensure that all kidnapped persons still in the captivity of the Boko Haram, including Leah Sharibu and the Chibok girls, were rescued and released to their families.

The abductees said they were mostly Christians who hailed from Yobe State, and asked the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, to also help secure their freedom.
In the one minute, 29 seconds short video, one of the abductees, Bitrus Bwala, who identified himself as a principal lecturer at the College of Education, Gashua, in Yobe State, spoke on behalf of the others.

“I was on my way to my station on November 27, 2019, when I was abducted by the Tilafa army (Boko Haram). I appeal to the Federal Government to come to our aide,’’ said Bwala.
Leah Sharibu  still alive
Speaking further, Bwala said: “We also say the government has not done enough, that is why Leah Sharibu is still with this group.
“We, therefore, appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to do whatever…it takes to come to our rescue.”

ACF asks FG to review its strategy in negotiations
Meanwhile, ACF has called on the Federal Government to review its negotiation strategy with terrorists and ensure that all kidnapped persons still in the captivity of Boko Haram, including Leah Sharibu, and the Chibok girls, were rescued and released to their families.

In a statement, which was signed by the forum’s National Publicity Secretary, Muhammed Biu, ACF condemned the recent killings of aid workers, including women by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno.
The ACF said the action of the terrorists was callous, barbaric and inhuman and totally against the tenets of Islam and humanity.
According to the forum, the killing is clear desecration of Islam, which preaches sacred inviolability of the individual.
It expressed regret that the Federal Government’s assurance that it was working to secure the release of the abducted aid workers did not achieve the desired result.

It called on the government to intensify efforts to secure the release of all abducted persons still in custody of the terrorists in order to assuage the fears of Nigerians.
The statement read:  “The Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, is shocked and saddened by the sad news of yet another killing of four aid workers, including a woman, by Boko Haram terrorists yesterday in Borno State.

“It would be recalled that sometimes last year, two female aid workers with International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC, were abducted by the terrorists during an attack on the military base in Rann, Borno State, and were subsequently executed by the terrorists on the grounds that the Federal Government failed to meet up with some of their demands.
‘’The recent action of the terrorists, to say the least, was callous, barbaric and inhuman and totally against the tenets of Islam and humanity. The killing is clear desecration of Islam which preaches sacred inviolability of the individual.

“The Federal Government’s assurances that it has been working with some friendly countries and other international organizations to save the lives of the innocent aid workers and other kidnapped female students have not yielded the desired result.”
“ACF, therefore, urges the FG to review its negotiation strategy with the terrorists and ensure that all kidnapped persons still in the captivity of Boko Haram, including Leah Sharibu, and the Chibok girls are rescued and released to their families.

“ACF urges the FG to intensify its rescue operations in order to assuage the fears of Nigerians of what may happen to those still in captivity.  ACF extends its condolences to the families of those who were brutally executed by the terrorists for serving humanity and equally commiserates with the families of those still captivity.”

The Senate is Suspending the Public Hearing for the Social Media Bill until 2020

The Senate is Suspending the Public Hearing for the Social Media Bill until 2020

That’s right, the senate is suspending further legislative action on the Social Media Bill until 2020.
Punch reports that the suspension was made by the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matter, the 14-member panel expressing mixed feelings toward the bill that has received wide criticism from the populace.
“We have to be careful so as not to be on the wrong side of history,” a member of the committee shared. The member revealed that they have decided to consult “widely” before moving forward with the bill.
Stakeholders are being identified, the member also shared, and will be invited to air their opinions on the bill. Members of the public will also be invited.
We have agreed, tentatively, to fix the public hearing for January. We have to be careful so as not to be on the wrong side of history. We are already identifying the various stakeholders who have spoken on the issue as individuals, groups or institutions. We will send letters of invitations to them.
We will also do a media publication inviting members of the public to the public hearing with their written submissions so that we would capture all their views. We need to ensure that the media and the civil society groups who are in the forefront of the agitation against the bill, come around to defend their position.
It is when this is done that we will be able to convince Nigerians that we have done the right thing.

Funke Akindele Bello opens up about her babies for the first time

Funke Akindele Bello opens up about her babies for the first time

Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele Bello needs no introduction as she has with time carved an niche for herself in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

In a recent chat with Pearlnews, the movie icon while advising  the younger generation, hinted on how much her new husband, JJC Skillz had impacted her life and career.

She said: ” There is time for everything, so, do not rush. Just take life easy. Don’t let people pressure you into doing something you do not believe. I’ve tried to push a lot of things, but when I met my husband, he changed things for me, in the sense that when I’m rushing to get things done, he’ll be like “Calm down, calm down; things will fall in place”, and indeed things have been falling in place. So, calm down!”
Also speaking on her greatest accomplishment as an actor as well as life as a mother of twins, Mrs. Bello says  she it is being able to impact the lives of young people, and helping them to nurture their talent.

“I achieve this by giving them an opportunity. I have my production outfit, and with every series from Scene One production, I try to empower as many people as possible. That’s a great accomplishment for me.As a creative person, sometimes,  I get stuck. I’ve experienced it a lot, but this year has been mad!

Because, after the arrival of my babies, I went back to work immediately. What I do when I feel stuck is I dump the work, take a walk, and go for a swim. I also enjoy watching excellent TV series like ‘Greenleaf.’ After the short break, my inspiration can happen the next day, in the shower.  I can start thinking about what to do with characters, and what their next moves should be before you know it, I’m bursting with fresh new ideas.”
Keen to know the three things one will always find in Funke Akindele purse?
Her response: “That’ll be my power bank, chewing gum and hair lotion.”

10 Former Governors Who May Suffer Orji Uzor Kalu’s Fate

10 Former Governors Who May Suffer Orji Uzor Kalu’s Fate

In this piece, ENIOLA AKINKUOTU and TOBI AWORINDE report that the list of former governors going to jail may extend in the coming months.

The conviction of former Governor Orji Kalu of Abia State for fraud to the tune of N7.6bn has boosted the morale of Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies, especially that of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Kalu’s case, which lasted in court for 12 years, came to a dramatic end a few days ago with Justice Mohammed Idris sentencing him to 12 years in prison.

Legal luminaries opine that the case was able to move on without hindrances from 2015 to 2019 because of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act that was signed into law by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

In a nutshell, the ACJA makes it difficult for parties in a criminal case to unnecessarily delay the court proceedings as was done through preliminary objections and interlocutory appeals in the past.

Since the signing of the ACJA into law, four former governors have been convicted in the last four years. They include: Bala Ngilari of Adamawa State, whose conviction was later upturned by the Court of Appeal; former Governor Jolly Nyame of Taraba State; ex-Governor Joshua Dariye of Plateau State and Kalu.

There is, however, a long list of former governors who may end up behind bars.

Sule Lamido

Lamido, who was governor of Jigawa state from 2007 to 2015, is currently standing trial with two of his sons – Aminu and Mustapha – before a Federal High Court in Abuja for alleged N1.35bn fraud.

According to the EFCC, N1, 356,223,854.28 and N583, 785, 81.14, were transferred from the state government’s account to Lamido’s personal account on December 11, 2012 and December 18, 2009 respectively. Other such payments include, N206, 463,210.14 and N6288, 947.17 made on February 6, 2013.

The commission said on April 18, 2008, two cheques to the tune of N14, 079,595 and N10, 377,310 respectively were transferred in favour of a company, Speeds International in which Lamido is signatory. The exhibits have been tendered in court.

Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu has adjourned the matter till February 18, 19 and 20, 2020, for continuation of trial.

Murtala Nyako

Nyako was Governor of Adamawa State from 2007 until his impeachment in 2014. He is also a former Chief of Naval Staff and ex-military administrator of Niger State.

Married to Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja, Nyako and eight others, including his son, Senator Abdul-Aziz Nyako, are facing 37 counts of criminal conspiracy, stealing, abuse of office and money laundering preferred against them by the EFCC

Five companies that allegedly served as conduit for the alleged diversion of the funds were equally charged.

They are facing trial before Justice Okon Abang for alleged money laundering to the tune of N29bn.

The EFCC had on November 5, 2019, called its last witness, Mr. Kobis, who testified via a video link from London.

Ayodele Fayose

Fayose was governor of Ekiti State from 2003 until his impeachment in 2006. He subsequently came under investigation by the EFCC and was charged before a Federal High Court for allegedly diverting N860m meant for poultry projects.

While the matter was still ongoing, Fayose again won election as the governor in 2014 which conferred on him immunity from prosecution.

However, on the day his tenure ended on October 16, 2018, he was again arrested by the EFCC for allegedly receiving N6.9bn from a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, during the run-up to the 2014 governorship election.

The sum was said to have emanated from the account of the Office of the National Security Adviser under the leadership of Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.).

The EFCC arraigned Fayose and his companies before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on 11 counts bordering on money laundering and stealing to the tune of N6.9bn.

Saminu Turaki

Turaki was Governor of Jigawa State from 1999 to 2007. The EFCC accused the former governor of fraud to the tune of N36bn and levelled 32 charges against him before a Dutse, Jigawa State Division of the Federal High Court, in 2011.

He was, however, re-arraigned alongside three companies before Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja in 2017.

Jonah Jang

Jang, who is a former Governor of Plateau State and ex-senator, is facing trial for alleged fraud to the tune of N6.3bn.

The former governor is standing trial before Justice Daniel Longji of Plateau State High Court alongside a former cashier in the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Yusuf Pam.

The EFCC slammed 12 counts bordering on misappropriation of funds.

At the last hearing on November 4, 2019, an EFCC witness, Musa Sunday, narrated to the court how a cashier at the Plateau State Government House delivered the sum of N750m to Jang while he was governor.

Babangida Aliyu

Aliyu was governor of Niger State from 2007 to 2015 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Aliyu, who preferred to be called the ‘chief servant’ of Niger State during his time as governor, is facing trial for alleged N2bn fraud.

The former governor is being prosecuted before Justice Mikailu Abdullahi of a Niger State High Court by the EFCC along with his then Chief of Staff, Umar Nasko, and the Chairman of the PDP in Niger State, Tanko Beji, on seven counts bordering on criminal breach of trust.

The case last came up on November 7, 2019.

Gabriel Suswam

Suswam was Governor of Benue State from 2007 to 2015. The former governor is standing trial alongside his Commissioner for Finance, Omadachi Oklobi; on N3.1bn money laundering charges.

Suswam, who is now the senator representing Benue North East, and his co-defendant, are facing nine counts before Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The former governor was first arraigned in 2015 before Justice Ahmed Mohammed in the same Abuja division of the court but Justice Mohammed withdrew from the case in July 2019 following a Sahara Reporter’s story accusing him of unethical practices in respect of the case.

Suswam and his ex-commissioner were subsequently re-arraigned before Justice Abang on September 30, 2019. Trial began on October 29.

Gbenga Daniel

A former governor of Ogun State, Daniel is currently standing trial for alleged fraud to the tune of N200m before Justice Olarenwaju Mabekoje of the Ogun State High Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Daniel, who was governor from 2003 to 2011, was arraigned in October 2011 on 16 counts bordering on stealing and misappropriation of funds.

In 2012, a key EFCC witness, Adeluola Babatunde, a Business Manager with Skye Bank (now Polaris Bank), told the court that Daniel wanted to kill him and he had been sending threat messages to him, an allegation which the court ordered the police to investigate.

Daniel had his no case submission dismissed by the judge on May 17, 2019 with the judge asking him to open his defence.

Adebayo Alao-Akala

Alao-Akala, a former Governor of Oyo State, is also facing corruption charges for alleged N11.5bn fraud before Justice Olalekan Owolabi of a state High Court sitting in Ibadan.

The former governor was first arraigned before Justice Moshood Abass on October 11, 2011.

He is standing trial along with his then Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hosea Agboola, and an Ibadan-based businessman, Femi Babalola for 11 counts preferred against them by the EFCC.

The charge against them borders on “conspiracy, awarding contract without budgetary provision, obtaining by false pretence, acquiring property with money derived from an illegal act and concealing the ownership of such property”.

Alao-Akala is alleged to have awarded a road contract worth about N8.5bn between 2007 and 2009 without budgetary provision, to Pentagon Engineering Services, a company traced to Babalola.

The said contract was executed on behalf of the 33 local governments in the state.

Ikedi Ohakim

Ohakim, who was Governor of Imo State from 2007 to 2011, is standing trial before Justice Babatunde Quadri of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

He was first arraigned on July 8, 2015 before Justice Adeniyi Ademola. However, with the compulsory retirement of Justice Ademola, by the National Judicial Council, the case started de novo before Justice Quadri.

The EFCC slammed three charges against Ohakim, accusing him of purchasing a parcel of land at 60 Kwame Nkrumah Street, Asokoro, Abuja, with $2.2m in contravention of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act.

The truth is that if there should be total transparency, there's no Governor, NASS, House of Assembly, public office holder, elected. appointed or career driven in the past or in the present that wouldn't have a serious case to answer if close attention is payed to their finances and incomes.

Meanwhile why are non of the past Senate Presidents not there. You will pity the people of Benue if you go to David Mark's Constituency.
Where's Saraki's name, where are the names of Ike Ekweremmadu, Theodore Orji and others too numerous to mention.
These men must be held accountable for all the constituency project money they have been collecting for more than 10years.

EXPOSED! How Some APC Governors Tried Kicking Out Oshiomhole

EXPOSED! How Some APC Governors Tried Kicking Out Oshiomhole

Some governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly told him of their resolve to get the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, sacked.

However, it took the intervention of Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State to kill their plot when he saw that the quartet wanted to use the other governors to get Buhari’s backing for Oshiomhole’s removal.
A source told The Nation that the governors see Oshiomhole as an obstacle to one of them running for the 2023 presidency.
”It is all about 2023. They want a pliant person as chairman, someone they can manipulate. That is why they want Oshiomhole out”, he told a stunned President Buhari, adding: ”They want to hijack the APC for selfish reason.”

Pro-Oshiomhole governors at the meeting were, Babagana Zulum, Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun) and Gboyega Oyetola (Osun).
At the meeting with Buhari, Governor El-Rufai reportedly told the president that APC governors have resolved that Oshiomhole should go because he is not running the party well.
Zulum countered: ”Who are the APC governors with you? Where and when did we meet to agree that the national chairman should resign?” he asked El-Rufai.

A source privy to the meeting said Governor Zulum told Buhari that El-Rufai and his collaborators had a sinister motive.
“Mr President, you see all these governors seeking the removal of Oshiomhole are doing so because they are aspiring to be President in 2023. This is why they are calling a dog a bad name in order to hang it. Must we destroy the party because of presidential ambition? I think we should be careful.

“I believe our National Chairman is a fair and equitable leader. I have never met him, yet he allowed due process in the party which made me to emerge as the governorship candidate of the APC in Borno State. He knew me during the presidential campaign in our state. He has never asked me for a favour,” Zulum was quoted as saying.

It was gathered that the anti-Oshiomhole governors are reportedly plotting on how to get 120 members of the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) to their side.
They are reportedly planning to replace the former Edo State governor with Ex-governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State or a former aspirant for APC chairman, Mr Sam Jaja.

A party source told the Nation:-
“I think they are peddling Yari, the choice might be Jaja eventually. They know Yari loves ego-boosting and he has a lot to spend. If Yari is their ultimate choice, they will meet their match in President Buhari, who believes the ex-Zamfara governor must account for his tenure in the state. Buhari has refused to stop the investigation of Yari despite the entreaties of some of these anti-Oshiomhole governors.

“It also does not add up for the President to come from the North-West and the party chairman from the same zone. Yari is just a smokescreen.
“If they are able to convince Jaja to replace Oshiomhole, they must be running the errand of a third force.
“Some of these governors, their allies and foot soldiers are so petty to the extent that they are deploying huge cash to remove Oshiomhole. Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, who is having a running battle with Oshiomhole, is said to be one of those funding the project.

They have offered some NEC members as much as N500,000 and even infiltrated the National Working Committee ( NWC) of the APC by dangling N10million to N20million to the members. Those offered the huge cash were from both North-Central and South-West.

“A member of the NEC said he was offered N100,000 but he will collect the balance after the removal of Oshiomhole.”
Naija News reports that Adams Oshiomhole has been under fire from some members of the ruling party, with a national vice-chairman of the party calling for his resignation.

Oshiomhole has also been at loggerhead with the governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, who is also reportedly working to get the national chairman sacked.
Recall that a chieftain of the APC, Senator Kabiru Marafa, had raised alarm over plots to take of over the affairs of the party by some APC governors.

According to him, the governors want to make President Muhammadu Buhari politically irrelevant before 2023.
Marafa said: “The fight is not against Oshiomole, it is actually against the president himself. It is only that they don’t have the guts to say it now, but they will when the time is ripe.

“It is evident that the plot to unseat Comrade Adams Oshiomole by a gang of President Buhari’s adversaries has thickened. This plot is merely aimed at hijacking the party structures and handing it over to Yari – who till now is the arrowhead of all the people that harbour a lot of bitterness against the president.

“The Governors in concert with their cronies, within and outside the party, are doing everything possible to hijack the party structures to ensure that the president and his sympathisers are edged out of power equation in 2023.”

Edo APC crisis: Why I won’t allow Obaseki creates new political structures ― Oshiomhole

Edo APC crisis: Why I won’t allow Obaseki creates new political structures ― Oshiomhole

National chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has given the reason for the ongoing power tussle between him and the Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole.

A rally organised to welcome an erstwhile chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Pastor Ize Iyamu into the APC in Edo state was almost aborted at the weekend in Benin city.
Speaking in a television programme, the APC chairman said Governor Obaseki’s move to create an alternative power bloc in Edo state by deliberately stripping existing party leaders of their enormous influence in the APC Edo state chapter was the genesis of the cold war between him and the Edo state governor.
Comrade Oshiomhole claimed that efforts to convince Governor Obaseki to continue to manage all shades of characters in the party has since been rebuffed by the latter.

He said: ”A political party is like a forest, in that forest you have many animals. The politician is the guy who goes into this forest, knowing fully well that all the dangerous animals are there but he is going for the antelope or the grass cutter which he wants to use to feed his family. He goes there get his antelope or grass cutter home and feast without being crashed.

“So the minimum requirement of political leadership is to be able to deal with all kinds of characters, use them to get what you want. And I said to him, you have to manage these people because for me as long as they deliver their units on the day of the election you have to manage them. In my first term election when I don’t know the politicians too well, I won Oredo, Egor, Ikpoba Okhai, we were only rigged out in Ovia and Orhiomwon in 2007.
“It is those Benin votes and the small we got from Edo North that we used to defend my mandate in court. Look at the way they humiliated Ogbemudia’s daughter for refusing to abuse me, the woman only said I cannot abuse Comrade rather as a mother I will join hands to settle the dispute between you people. But they said they don’t want settlement they want to crush. Three days later they crushed the woman by suspending her as chairman of Egor Local Government.

“ So it is a pity that they don’t know the difference between internal contestation and internal mechanism for resolving them and fighting the opposition. Killing is out of the kind of politics we practise, maiming is out of it. Now I told him Mr governor, with all the reservation people, were raising, talking about history, we convinced them to support you and it worked for you and you got elected, even if the margin of defeat was not as much as my own, but they worked for you.

“Then why do you now want to distort the system by creating a so-called new political structure, is there a structural defect? He said he will retire all the politicians but I said to him will you retire somebody you did not hire. Most of these politicians I met them in the business.
I have to go to their houses to convince them I want their support and when they give me that support I work hard to appreciate them. So if this is being foolish I want to remain foolish. As long as they work for me and Edo remain the only state in the South-South that we have APC.
“The only thing I invested in defeating PDP in Edo state is my integrity and my capacity to persuade and mobilize. Politics is a leveller, people who are detained by their ego can’t make it in politics. And I do not know any political party where you don’t have disagreement but as leaders, all you need to do is to call them and explain yourself. If it happens they are right and you are wrong, you apologize.

The APC national chairman who dismissed the claim that he taught Governor Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shuaibu how to frustrate political godfathers further argued that the duo of Governor Obaseki and his deputy, Honourable Shuaibu have no political base having lost their polling booths in last general elections.
“I have read them on several occasions saying that I taught them all they are doing today. This is laughable because I never thought them how to lose elections. As we speak today, the governor (Obaseki) lost his ward, Local Government and senatorial district in the last Presidential election. As we speak, the governor is being represented by the PDP in his Federal constituency and senatorial district. These in my view were early morning signals about the need to change tactics., stop threatening people, saying you will crush, who are you crushing?

“But I won my entire senatorial district for Mr President and I am being represented by an APC senator and House of Representatives. Then his Deputy Philip, in Jattu where he comes from, in his polling booth where he and his family voted, Philip Shaibu lost. He lost his booth during his own governorship election in which he was standing as Deputy governorship candidate. So if he learnt from me, he should have learnt well because I never lost an election in my village.

“There is nobody in my village who can work against me because when I go home I relate to them, I am an ordinary man. You see when you have power and you don’t use it you are even more powerful. And you must know when to talk tough and when to talk softly. When I am in my village I am just like an ordinary man. I argue and play with my people. The only man that was doing PDP in my village, the youths said how can he be doing PDP but I said no, you have to persuade him to join us.

“And today that young man is one of my PAs. So he (Philip) is one of my very poor students, Kakhi is not a lesson and fighters must be tactful and strategic. No sensible man will fight people who vote for them. Those they are fighting now, some of them delivered 95 per cent of the votes in their units while they lost their own areas.”

PHOTO: Did Orji Kalu go and beg Abba Kyari in this photo as claimed?

A picture of Orji Uzor Kalu, former governor of Abia state, kneeling down alongside Geoffrey Onyeama, minister of foreign affairs, is circulating online.
In a message shared on social media particularly on Whatsapp, Kalu, who was recently convicted of fraud, was said to be begging Abba Kyari, President Muhammadu Buhari’s chief of staff, to be pardoned of his crime.
The plea is said to be in connection with a recent fraud conviction for N7.1 billion which he committed during his time as governor.

The message in circulation claims that Kalu, who currently represents Abia north at the senate, was begging to not go to jail — “but it didn’t work”.
However, TheCable reports that the claim is not true.

TheCable reports that the picture was taken on November 24, inside Kalu’s compound in Abia state.
Onyeama had joined others at the former governor’s house to celebrate the Christ the King feast, an annual celebration by the Catholic church.
A video of the celebration also showed those in attendance while a priest officiated the ceremony.
