Police Arrest Ex-boyfriend Of Final Year Law Student Murdered Inside Her Room
Policemen in Rivers state have arrested the ex-boyfriend of a final year Law student killed inside her room.
Miss Matilda Mark Itonyo.
The Rivers State Police Command has arrested one suspect in connection with the gruesome murder of a 500-level Law student of the Rivers State University, Miss Matilda Mark Itonyo.
According to Punch, the suspect, whose name was withheld by the police, was only identified as a former boyfriend of the murdered student.
It was gathered that the police had in the early hours of Saturday tracked the suspect to his house in Port Harcourt before taking him away to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
The 24-year-old Matilda was stabbed several times in the neck and head by her assailant(s) at her private apartment outside the university campus.
The killers were said to have broken into her room in the early hours of Tuesday and allegedly raped her before snuffing life out of her.
The incident, according to sources, forced some of her course mates to shun classes when they got wind of the incident.
Confirming the arrest of the suspect, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Nnamdi Omoni, explained that he was apprehended for interrogation in connection with Matilda’s murder.
He stated, “We cannot say that we have arrested the killer of the student. He was only arrested for interrogation and at the end, if he is found culpable, he will be prosecuted. But if he is innocent, he will be allowed to go.
“Yes, the suspect is the former boyfriend of the late student. He was arrested on Saturday morning after being tracked to his residence.”
The father of the deceased, Mr Ebikene Itonyo, told Punch that he rushed to the state CID when he learnt that a suspect had been arrested.
Ebikene called on the police not to relent in their efforts to fish out the killers of his daughter and bring them to justice.
“I was at the state CID. I rushed to the place when I was told that one of the suspects had been arrested. We know that the suspect will deny, but I think the police must have seen some certain things that made them to arrest him,” Ebikene added.

Two Nigerian nationals including a priest arrested in India for ATM cloning, 37 cloned cards recovered
A Nigerian man who earlier served as a priest at a church in Greater Noida has been arrested, along with his “assistant”, also from Nigeria, for cloning dozens of plastic cards by fixing skimming devices and secret cameras in ATMs in Delhi.
The two were arrested after a brief chase near D1 Market in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj on Friday. They had with them 37 cards that had already been cloned, 10 blank cards, and a host of devices used in the fraud, said Devender Arya, deputy commissioner of police (south-west).
The police, however, are yet to determine the scale of their alleged fraud.
Arya identified the arrested men as Oluwatoyin Isaiah, 46, and his assistant Nosa Tony — a 43-year-old man who would allegedly be given 2% of all proceeds from the crime.
“Isaiah was living on an expired visa after arriving in Delhi in 2012 on a medical visa. We recovered two passports from him. They have different names and numbers, but both have Isaiah’s photo,” Arya said.
The officer said that having overstayed his visit, Isaiah had tried his hand in the hair export business, apart from his two-year-long stint at the Greater Noida church, before coming into contact with a Bulgarian man, Eris, at Delhi airport last year.
“Eris taught Isaiah how to clone cards. They purchased a skimming device from an e-commerce site and procured the other devices a variety of sources,” Arya said.
Eris and Isaiah would allegedly fix the skimming devices and spy cameras in unguarded ATMs in Delhi-NCR. They would copy the data from a card onto the skimming device, and Isaiah would allegedly transplant this data on to a blank card. The spy cameras helped Isaiah know the PINs of these cards, the police said.
Isaiah sought Tony’s help for the second step, which the police said wasn’t as risky as the first. The latter has been living in Gurugram since last year on a business visa.
Once they had everything, all they needed to do was either withdraw cash discreetly from ATMs or spend the money in the cards for online purchases.
The two were arrested after the south-west district police was tipped off about their whereabouts. Eris remains on the run, said the police.
“They were headed to an ATM to commit a crime. Most of the items we recovered from them was found in a bag they were carrying,” the DCP said

Lecturer, 10 others kidnapped by Boko Haram beg for freedom
As ACF asks FG to review its strategy in negotiations
By Ben Agande, with agency report
No fewer than 11 persons, including a lecturer in College of Education, Gashua in Yobe State, who were recently kidnapped by Boko Haram in the state have appeared in a video shared by their abductors, asking the Federal Government to come to their rescue.
This came as Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, weekend, called on the Federal Government to review its negotiation strategy with the terrorists and ensure that all kidnapped persons still in the captivity of the Boko Haram, including Leah Sharibu and the Chibok girls, were rescued and released to their families.
The abductees said they were mostly Christians who hailed from Yobe State, and asked the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, to also help secure their freedom.
In the one minute, 29 seconds short video, one of the abductees, Bitrus Bwala, who identified himself as a principal lecturer at the College of Education, Gashua, in Yobe State, spoke on behalf of the others.
“I was on my way to my station on November 27, 2019, when I was abducted by the Tilafa army (Boko Haram). I appeal to the Federal Government to come to our aide,’’ said Bwala.
Leah Sharibu still alive
Speaking further, Bwala said: “We also say the government has not done enough, that is why Leah Sharibu is still with this group.
“We, therefore, appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to do whatever…it takes to come to our rescue.”
ACF asks FG to review its strategy in negotiations
Meanwhile, ACF has called on the Federal Government to review its negotiation strategy with terrorists and ensure that all kidnapped persons still in the captivity of Boko Haram, including Leah Sharibu, and the Chibok girls, were rescued and released to their families.
In a statement, which was signed by the forum’s National Publicity Secretary, Muhammed Biu, ACF condemned the recent killings of aid workers, including women by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno.
The ACF said the action of the terrorists was callous, barbaric and inhuman and totally against the tenets of Islam and humanity.
According to the forum, the killing is clear desecration of Islam, which preaches sacred inviolability of the individual.
It expressed regret that the Federal Government’s assurance that it was working to secure the release of the abducted aid workers did not achieve the desired result.
It called on the government to intensify efforts to secure the release of all abducted persons still in custody of the terrorists in order to assuage the fears of Nigerians.
The statement read: “The Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, is shocked and saddened by the sad news of yet another killing of four aid workers, including a woman, by Boko Haram terrorists yesterday in Borno State.
“It would be recalled that sometimes last year, two female aid workers with International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC, were abducted by the terrorists during an attack on the military base in Rann, Borno State, and were subsequently executed by the terrorists on the grounds that the Federal Government failed to meet up with some of their demands.
‘’The recent action of the terrorists, to say the least, was callous, barbaric and inhuman and totally against the tenets of Islam and humanity. The killing is clear desecration of Islam which preaches sacred inviolability of the individual.
“The Federal Government’s assurances that it has been working with some friendly countries and other international organizations to save the lives of the innocent aid workers and other kidnapped female students have not yielded the desired result.”
“ACF, therefore, urges the FG to review its negotiation strategy with the terrorists and ensure that all kidnapped persons still in the captivity of Boko Haram, including Leah Sharibu, and the Chibok girls are rescued and released to their families.
“ACF urges the FG to intensify its rescue operations in order to assuage the fears of Nigerians of what may happen to those still in captivity. ACF extends its condolences to the families of those who were brutally executed by the terrorists for serving humanity and equally commiserates with the families of those still captivity.”

Because, after the arrival of my babies, I went back to work immediately. What I do when I feel stuck is I dump the work, take a walk, and go for a swim. I also enjoy watching excellent TV series like ‘Greenleaf.’ After the short break, my inspiration can happen the next day, in the shower. I can start thinking about what to do with characters, and what their next moves should be before you know it, I’m bursting with fresh new ideas.”
